"We didn't realise we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun" - Winnie the Pooh
The Isle of Wight - Being just 24 miles by 13 miles, you're never far from a beach
I haven’t been to the Isle of Wight since I was a kid
Well, guess what, it’s time to go back.
The Isle of Wight appeals to the masses. Confirmed as a firm family favourite, it also caters for walkers, cyclists, bookworms, historians, dinosaur hunters and festival goers.
I haven’t met a guest yet that hasn’t fallen in love with at least one aspect of the Island.
Take the ferry across from the mainland (no passport required!) and instantly feel like you’re on holiday.
A couple of our holiday homes are based in Ventnor, a Victorian seaside resort with its own micro climate and its own Fringe Festival.
Loved by families for years, you’ll be treated to a sand and shingle beach, a children’s paddling pool in the shape of the Island, numerous cafes and restaurants (including a pirate pub) and amazing ice cream parlours and fish & chips.
The Isle of Wight has numerous visitor attractions and must see places to visit, many of which can be easily reached from Ventnor.
The Botanical Gardens, Steephill Cove and Bonchurch are all walkable from Ventnor. Slightly further afield are Blackgang Chine, Shanklin and the picturesque village of Godshill, all within a 15 minute drive or bus ride away.
Ventnor is an excellent base for exploring the Island.
The Rest of the Island
Where do we start? There is so much else to do on the Island. If you need some inspiration have a look at some of our blogs to get you started.
Take off to Bembridge, Brading and Brighstone.... hit the capital town of Newport for shopping, theatres and nightlife.....Ride to Ryde and marvel at the golden sandy beach... shimmy down to Shanklin and Sandown to experience traditional family resorts (and some thatched cottages and quaint tea shops in the Old Village).... Feel fantastic in Freshwater.... say yes to Yarmouth and don't forget to moo-ve over to Cowes to ogle the boats in the marina and soak up the maritime atmosphere.
ISLE OF WIGHT
A whole world on a single island....
We stayed at Tailors Cottage with our 21 month old and the owners made efforts to ensure we had stair gates and a cot which was great. You can walk to everything in Ventnor in 5 minutes from the cottage.
Lovely place with a nice retro theme. The Retro Retreat felt like a proper home away from home, we were sad to leave. The views from the street are fantastic and the area is nice and quiet.
